MEET THE CREATOR

AMBER SKIDMORE

Amber Skidmore has an Addictions Counseling Master’s Degree, and she’s a certified Prevention Specialist. A daughter of alcoholics and addicts, Amber’s personal experiences fuel her passion for empowering families worldwide through education about medications and drugs. Amber works tirelessly to prevent the devastating impact of overdoses and to break the cycles of addiction. She has become a passionate children's author and the creator of "The PAM Family". Determined to create a fun and interactive way to educate our children with three responsibilities when it comes to being a medicine home:

  1. Have knowledge about the different types/forms of medicine.

  2. Medicine is prescribed for THAT child/children ONLY as it is dosed according to their AGE & WEIGHT.

  3. If you take TOO MUCH of a particular type of medicine it can be HARMFUL for the body and might come with a hospital visit.

One of the hobbies Amber enjoys most is crocheting. To help market and attract young kids, she has developed plushies for each family member of "The PAM Family". She has enjoyed making the characters from her book come alive to help bring comfort for kids when medicine time comes. She is currently busy making them and hopes to be able to sell them in the future. When she is not crocheting, Amber embraces all that life has to offer as a military spouse. She also enjoys reading and spending time with her husband, 2 kids and Labrador Retriever.

In the past few years, adolescent overdoses have increased. From 2018-2022, 93% of kids aged 10-17 had an accidental overdose or acute intoxication. In that same time frame with that same age group, 59% of suicidal deaths were related to poly-substance use while 54% of accidental deaths found poly-substance use (https://ncfrp.org/center-resources/quick-looks/opioid-related-deaths-in-children-ages-1-to-17/). We are facing a new pandemic when it comes to our children/teenagers and experimenting with drugs/alcohol than ever before. Amber has made it her mission to begin educating our children, at an early age, on the topic of drug use and how to be responsible with any type of medicine; whether prescribed or over the counter. It is our duty as parents and adults to help the next generation understand the impact that alcohol and drugs can have on our life when we make unhealthy decisions. "The PAM Family" is only the beginning.
